If your home or business runs on three-phase power, and you want to back up your entire property during a grid outage, not just a few circuits, the Fronius Verto Plus is the inverter to look at. It is the only Fronius hybrid inverter purpose-built to deliver full, whole-home backup on three-phase connections. It is also one of the few products on the Australian market that can do it at scale.

This guide covers what the inverter does, who it suits, how it differs from the Fronius GEN24 Plus range, and what a Verto Plus system looks like in practice.

Who Is the Fronius Verto Plus For?

The Verto Plus was designed for three categories: farms and rural properties, small to medium commercial operations, and larger residential homes. What they share is a three-phase connection, and a need for energy independence that goes beyond essentials backup.

In Perth and regional WA, three-phase power is common in properties with large air conditioning systems, workshops, pool and irrigation equipment, or commercial refrigeration. It is also common in multiple-storey homes with high electrical loads. If a standard single-phase inverter would not be enough, or if you already have three-phase supply from Western Power, the Verto Plus is designed for your situation.

It is also the right answer when essentials backup is not enough. The Fronius GEN24 Plus Symo range (three-phase, 6–10 kW) can back up two or three dedicated circuits during a grid outage. The Verto Plus can back up the entire property: all three phases, and the full load panel.

Full Whole-Home Backup on Three-Phase

This is the Verto Plus’s defining capability. When paired with a compatible battery, it delivers a fully-fledged three-phase backup power supply. In a grid outage, the inverter and battery take over seamlessly. Every circuit in your home or business continues to run: air conditioning, refrigeration, lighting, hot water, motors, pumps, everything.

This matters because three-phase backup is technically more complex than single-phase backup. Three separate phases need to remain balanced and synchronised. The Verto Plus handles this natively. The GEN24 Plus Symo does not.

Backup Power Boost

Heavy loads draw a spike of current when they start up. This includes heat pumps, refrigeration compressors, irrigation pumps, and commercial machinery. That spike is often two to four times their running load. In a backup situation, an inverter that cannot absorb that surge will trip the circuit or shut down.

The Verto Plus includes a Backup Power Boost function. It temporarily increases output power in backup mode, to handle these motor-start surge currents. The peak output reaches up to 50 kVA AC, well above the continuous inverter rating. In practice, this means your air conditioner, heat pump, and refrigeration restart reliably after an outage, rather than failing to start and tripping the system.

A backup switching device is required in addition to the inverter and battery. Your installer will include this in the system design.

Both inverters come from Fronius and are made in Austria. The key difference is phase type and backup capability.

Key Features in Detail

3 MPPT Trackers

The Verto Plus has three independent Maximum Power Point Trackers, each with two DC string inputs, six string inputs in total. More MPPT trackers mean more flexibility when designing a system around a complex roof. Different orientations, tilts, row lengths, or panel types can each connect to their own MPPT, and be optimised independently. This is particularly useful on larger properties, where the solar array often spans multiple roof aspects, or is split between rooftop and ground-mount.

Enhanced Power Harvest System

When paired with a battery, the Verto Plus can accept a DC array oversized by up to 150% relative to the inverter’s AC output. A 20 kW Verto Plus can therefore accept up to 30 kW of panels. The inverter uses the battery to absorb the excess energy during peak production, rather than curtailing it. This is useful when you have roof space, and want to maximise generation without upgrading to a larger inverter.

Dynamic Peak Manager

Shading on part of the array can significantly reduce output, if the inverter cannot track around it. This shading might come from trees, a chimney, neighbouring buildings, or early morning shadows. Dynamic Peak Manager is Fronius’s shading management algorithm, already standard in the Verto. It continuously scans the power-voltage curve of each string, and locks onto the true maximum power point, even when partial shading creates multiple local peaks.

Integrated Surge and Arc Protection

The Verto Plus comes with integrated and replaceable DC Surge Protection Devices (Type 1+2) and AC Surge Protection Devices (Type 2). These protect the inverter and the connected equipment from voltage spikes caused by lightning or grid events. They are replaceable in the field, without replacing the whole inverter.

Arc Fault Circuit Interruption (AFCI) is also built in. DC arc faults in solar wiring are a known fire risk. A loose connection, damaged insulation, or corroded terminal can create sustained arcing, which generates intense heat. AFCI continuously monitors the DC input for arc signatures, and shuts down the affected string if one is detected.

IP66 Weatherproof Rating

IP66 means the inverter is fully dust-tight, and protected against powerful water jets from any direction. It can be installed indoors or outdoors. This matters for WA properties, where the preferred mounting location may be on an external wall, in a machinery shed, or in a location without shelter. Perth summers and Pilbara-adjacent heat will not affect it.

Battery Compatibility

Fronius Reserva

The Fronius Reserva is Fronius’s own modular battery, designed to pair with the Verto Plus. Each tower holds two to five modules, providing 6.3 to 15.8 kWh of usable storage per tower. Up to four towers can be connected together, giving a maximum of 63.2 kWh from a single system. The Reserva uses a high-power battery interface that allows near-lossless charging and discharging. This matters for backup performance, because the battery needs to respond instantly and at full power when the grid drops.

BYD HVM and HVS

Some customers want more flexibility in storage sizing. For them, the Verto Plus is also compatible with BYD‘s HVM and HVS high-voltage battery range. BYD batteries are modular, well-supported in Australia, and offer competitive energy density. Positive Energy Solutions can advise on the right battery configuration for your load profile and backup requirements.

Battery compatibility is confirmed at the time of system design. The size and configuration of the battery depends on the loads you want to back up and the duration of backup required.

The Fronius Verto Plus in Western Australia

REBAR — WA Residential Battery Rebate

If you are a residential customer, the WA Residential Battery Rebate (REBAR) may apply to your battery storage installation. The rebate is means-tested and applies to eligible battery systems. Positive Energy Solutions can confirm whether your proposed system qualifies and include the rebate in your quote.

CSIP-AUS Compliance

From May 2026, all new inverters connected to the SWIS must comply with CSIP-AUS. This is the Common Smart Inverter Profile standard. It allows Western Power and AEMO to communicate with, and where required modulate output from, grid-connected inverters. The Fronius Verto Plus meets this requirement. All systems installed by Positive Energy Solutions from this date are configured in full compliance with the new connection rules.

Three-Phase Power in WA

Three-phase power supply is more common in WA than in many other states, particularly in outer suburbs, rural areas, hobby farms, and light commercial properties. You can confirm whether your property has three-phase supply by counting the fuses in your main switchboard, or checking your Western Power connection details. If you do, the Verto Plus is sized and specified for your grid connection type.

Single-phase customers should consider the Fronius GEN24 Plus Primo range instead. Three-phase customers who need only essentials backup may find the GEN24 Plus Symo (6–10 kW) is sufficient for their needs. The Verto Plus is the right choice when whole-home backup or high AC output is the priority.

Is the Fronius Verto Plus available for single-phase homes?

No. The Verto Plus is a three-phase-only inverter. Single-phase customers should look at the Fronius GEN24 Plus Primo range instead. It is available from 3 to 10 kW, and offers essentials backup on all sizes, and whole-home backup on the 10 kW model.

What is the difference between essentials backup and whole-home backup?

Essentials backup powers two or three dedicated circuits, typically lighting, the fridge, the modem, and a selection of power outlets. The rest of the home loses power during a grid outage. Whole-home backup, which the Verto Plus provides, keeps all circuits and the full load panel running. Air conditioning, electric hot water, cooking appliances, and other high-draw loads continue to operate normally.

What battery sizes are available with the Verto Plus?

With the Fronius Reserva, each tower provides 6.3 to 15.8 kWh. Up to four towers can be connected, giving up to 63.2 kWh. BYD HVM and HVS batteries are also compatible, and offer additional sizing flexibility. The right configuration depends on your loads, and how many hours of backup you need.

Can I start with the Fronius Verto (non-Plus) and upgrade to a Verto Plus later?

No. This differs from the GEN24 range, where a GEN24 can be upgraded to a GEN24 Plus by adding a battery interface. The Fronius Verto cannot be upgraded to a Verto Plus. If you want battery storage and backup capability, you need to install the Verto Plus from the outset.

How large an array can I connect to the Verto Plus?

With the Enhanced Power Harvest System, the Verto Plus can accept a DC array oversized by up to 150% of the inverter’s AC output. A 20 kW Verto Plus can therefore accommodate up to 30 kW of panels. This lets you maximise roof space, and increase morning and afternoon generation, without oversizing the inverter.

Is the Fronius Verto Plus eligible for the WA battery rebate?

Residential installations may be eligible for the WA Residential Battery Rebate (REBAR), subject to eligibility criteria. Positive Energy Solutions will confirm eligibility when preparing your quote.

Does the Fronius Verto Plus meet WA’s new grid connection rules?

Yes. The Verto Plus complies with CSIP-AUS, the inverter communications standard that became mandatory for new connections to the SWIS in May 2026. All Positive Energy Solutions installations are configured to meet Western Power’s connection requirements.

Can the Verto Plus run without a battery?

The Fronius Verto (non-Plus) is a grid-tied solar-only inverter without battery capability. The Verto Plus is the hybrid version, designed to operate with a battery. The inverter itself can be installed before the battery is added. But the backup functionality and Enhanced Power Harvest System require the battery to be connected. Positive Energy Solutions recommends installing the battery at the same time, to get full value from the system from day one.
