When you get a solar and battery quote in Perth, the financing question comes up quickly. Most Perth homeowners are aware there are rebates available — but fewer understand that there are two completely different Plenti finance options on the table, with very different terms. Understanding which one applies to you, and what you can stack on top of it, makes a significant difference to the total cost of your system.

This post covers all three finance options Positive Energy Solutions recommends for Perth battery buyers: the WA scheme no-interest loan, the Plenti Green Loan, and the Parker Lane Green Loan. It explains how the WA scheme works in practice, what incentives you can stack, and which financing option applies to your situation.

Three Finance Options for Perth Battery Buyers

When you go solar and battery with Positive Energy Solutions, there are three financing options available depending on your eligibility and system size:

  • WA Residential Battery Scheme no-interest loan (via Plenti): A government-backed, no-interest loan of up to $10,000 administered by Plenti on behalf of the WA Government. Only available for eligible battery installations under the WA scheme. This is the best option for eligible Perth homeowners — 0% interest, no fees, and access to the WA state rebate.
  • Plenti Green Loan: A standard commercial loan for solar or battery from 9.49% p.a. No scheme eligibility required. Available for any solar or battery installation up to $45,000, with terms from 3 to 7 years.
  • Parker Lane Green Loan: A competitive commercial green loan from 6.99% p.a. (comparison rate 8.24%). No scheme eligibility required. Loan amounts from $1,000 to $100,000 with terms up to 15 years. Positive Energy Solutions recommends Parker Lane as the preferred commercial alternative for customers who do not qualify for the WA scheme.

For eligible homeowners, the WA scheme no-interest loan is almost always the best starting point. For those outside the scheme — whether due to battery choice, income, or other factors — Parker Lane’s lower starting rate and higher loan limits generally make it a stronger option than the standard Plenti commercial loan.

The WA Scheme No-Interest Loan: What You Need to Know

What it covers

The no-interest loan can be used to cover:

  • The battery system itself
  • New or upgraded inverters — when installed as part of a battery installation
  • Solar panels, if installed as part of a battery package

This last point matters: if you are getting solar and battery together in one package, the loan can cover both — not just the battery component. For homeowners going solar and battery at the same time, this significantly increases the value of the no-interest loan.

Eligibility requirements

To access the no-interest loan, your household and installation must meet the following conditions:

  • WA residential property with a Synergy or Horizon Power electricity account
  • Combined annual household income under $210,000 (the rebate itself is not income-tested — only the loan)
  • Battery must be on the Synergy Supported Solutions List and installed by an accredited scheme vendor
  • Installer must hold Grid Connected Battery System (GCBS) accreditation through Solar Accreditation Australia (SAA)
  • Battery must be connected to a VPP within 2 years of installation
  • Only one rebate and loan per property
  • Property must be a primary residence (home businesses are eligible if the home is also your primary residence)
  • Long-term rental properties are eligible, subject to agreement between landlord and tenant

The rebate is separate to the loan

The WA Government rebate of up to $1,300 is a separate benefit from the no-interest loan. You receive the rebate as a reduction in your upfront cost, and you can also apply for the no-interest loan to cover remaining costs. They are not mutually exclusive — most eligible homeowners access both.

Stacking All Available Incentives

The full picture of available incentives for a Perth battery installation in 2026, when combined, is substantial:

IncentiveAmountWho administers
WA State Battery RebateUp to $1,300WA Government / Plenti
Federal CHBP Rebate$6,810–$7,912 (depending on battery size)Federal Government / Clean Energy Regulator
WA No-Interest LoanUp to $10,000 at 0%Plenti (on behalf of WA Government)
Synergy Battery Rewards (ongoing)70c/kWh during VPP activation eventsSynergy

Rebate amounts are subject to change. Check the WA Government’s official scheme page and the Clean Energy Regulator’s CHBP page for current figures before applying. Positive Energy Solutions confirms all applicable rebates as part of the quoting process.

The WA state rebate and the federal CHBP rebate can be stacked — you are not required to choose one or the other. The no-interest loan is available on top of both rebates to cover remaining installation costs. And Synergy Battery Rewards credits run throughout the life of the battery, providing ongoing bill reductions for VPP participants.

How the Application Process Works

The WA Battery Scheme operates through an accredited vendor model — you do not apply directly to the government or to Plenti. Your installer manages the application on your behalf.

Step by step

  • Step 1 — Get a quote from an accredited vendor: Only scheme-approved installers can submit applications. Positive Energy Solutions is an accredited WA Battery Scheme vendor.
  • Step 2 — Confirm eligibility: Your installer will confirm that your property, income, and chosen battery system meet the scheme requirements.
  • Step 3 — Vendor submits the rebate application: Positive Energy Solutions lodges the rebate application on your behalf before or at the time of installation.
  • Step 4 — Loan application (if applicable): If you want the no-interest loan, your installer starts the loan process and Plenti contacts you directly to finalise credit assessment and loan documents.
  • Step 5 — Installation: Your system is installed and commissioned.
  • Step 6 — Proof of completion: After installation, proof of completion is provided to Plenti to finalise the rebate and trigger the loan drawdown for financed applicants.

Documents you will likely need

  • Proof of identity and property ownership or tenancy agreement
  • Recent Synergy or Horizon Power electricity bill
  • FY2023-24 or FY2024-25 income tax return (required for the loan income assessment)

Parker Lane Green Loan: The Positive Energy Solutions-Recommended Commercial Alternative

For Perth homeowners who do not qualify for the WA Battery Scheme — whether because of battery choice, household income above the threshold, or any other eligibility reason — Positive Energy Solutions recommends the Parker Lane Green Loan as the preferred commercial finance option.

Parker Lane is an award-winning Australian lender rated 4.9 out of 5 from over 1,600 customer reviews, with more than $450 million funded to date. Their green loan is purpose-built for solar, battery, and home energy upgrades and offers more competitive terms than most standard personal loans.

Parker Lane Green Loan: key features

  • From 6.99% p.a. variable (comparison rate 8.24% based on $30,000 over 5 years)
  • Borrow from $1,000 up to $100,000
  • Repay over 1 to 15 years
  • No property security or equity required
  • No early repayment penalty — pay it off faster at no cost
  • Upfront application fee plus ongoing monthly fee (both disclosed upfront in your loan documents)
  • Covers solar panels, battery storage, inverters, EV chargers, and other home energy upgrades
  • Standard credit assessment — no income cap, no VPP requirement

Parker Lane is particularly well suited for customers wanting to finance a larger system above the $10,000 scheme loan cap, customers installing Tesla Powerwall 3 (which is not scheme-eligible), or customers who want longer repayment terms than the Plenti commercial product offers. Funds are paid directly to Positive Energy Solutions once installation is complete, so you do not need to manage the payment yourself.

The VPP Requirement

To access either the WA scheme rebate or the no-interest loan, your battery must be connected to an approved Virtual Power Plant (VPP) within two years of installation. In practice, for most Perth homeowners on the SWIS, this means enrolling in Synergy Battery Rewards.

What this means day to day: Synergy can remotely export energy from your battery during grid activation events, a maximum of 30 times per year for up to 6 hours each time. In return, you earn 70c/kWh for every unit exported. The two-year VPP commitment runs from your installation date. After two years, you can opt out — the loan repayment continues independently.

The VPP obligation does not apply to the Plenti Green Loan (commercial). If you are financing through the standard green loan rather than the WA scheme, no VPP participation is required.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Plenti no-interest loan the same as the WA Battery Scheme rebate?

No — they are two separate benefits. The WA scheme rebate (up to $1,300) reduces your upfront installation cost and is not income-tested. The no-interest loan (up to $10,000) is a separate financing option administered by Plenti, available to households with combined income under $210,000. Most eligible homeowners access both the rebate and the loan.

Can I use the Plenti loan to finance solar panels as well as a battery?

Yes, if solar panels are installed as part of a battery package. The WA scheme no-interest loan can cover the battery system, new or upgraded inverters, and solar panels when installed together in a single package. If you are financing solar panels separately without a battery, you would need to use the standard Plenti Green Loan rather than the scheme loan.

What happens to my loan if I opt out of the VPP after two years?

Nothing — the loan and the VPP commitment are separate. After the two-year minimum VPP period, you can opt out of the VPP and your Plenti loan repayments continue on the original schedule with no change. Opting out of the VPP does not cancel, accelerate, or affect the loan in any way.

Can I pay off the Plenti no-interest loan early?

Yes. There are no early repayment fees on the WA scheme no-interest loan. You can pay it off ahead of schedule without any penalty, which reduces your total repayment period and frees up cashflow sooner.

Is Tesla Powerwall 3 eligible for the no-interest loan?

No. Tesla Powerwall 3 is not eligible for the WA Residential Battery Scheme — either the rebate or the no-interest loan. Tesla buyers can access the federal CHBP rebate only. For financing a Tesla installation, Positive Energy Solutions recommends the Parker Lane Green Loan (from 6.99% p.a., up to $100,000, terms up to 15 years) as the preferred commercial option. The Plenti Green Loan is also available from 9.49% p.a. if preferred. Both are subject to standard credit assessment.

Does Positive Energy Solutions handle the application for me?

Yes. Positive Energy Solutions is an accredited WA Battery Scheme vendor and handles the rebate application and loan initiation on your behalf. You do not need to approach Plenti or the WA Government directly. As part of your quote, we will confirm your eligibility for the scheme, calculate the rebates that apply, and guide you through the process from quote to installation to settlement.
