We recently installed a Solar and Battery system in Lesmurdie for our customer, Ron. The 10.66kW of QCells solar panels were installed with Tigo Power Optimisers to minimise losses from partial shading. A 5kW Sungrow hybrid inverter was chosen along with a 16kWh Sungrow battery.
To remain eligible for the Synergy Distributed Energy Buyback Scheme (DEBS), the inverter size could not be greater than 5kW. Ron was hoping for a 10+kW system, but was reluctant to forfeit the solar feed-in tariff. Fortunately, no compromise was needed.
When connected to a DC-Coupled battery, the 5kW Sungrow hybrid inverter can output up to 5kW AC power to the home + 6.6kW DC power to charge the battery. This AC + DC power output can occur simultaneously, which allows up to 12kW of solar panels to be installed.
With shading factored in, we estimate this Solar & Battery installation in Lesmurdie will produce an average of 35 kWh per day and reduce Ron’s electricity bills significantly!

Today we checked in on Ron’s system to see if our estimates were accurate…
Over the past year the system has generated 12,650kWh of solar energy, which equates to an average generation of 34.6kWh per day.
More importantly, that solar energy has been put to good use, reducing Ron’s electricity bills by more than 80% and delivering $2,640 in savings so far.
