I just moved from Vancouver, Canada. We affectionately call my homeland Rain City: boasting 192 days of rain per year on average, compared to Perth’s 108.
And yes, we get a nice dump of snow every winter as temperatures plummet.
Solar energy wasn’t on my radar before I came here. After leaving the rain clouds behind to land in the sunniest capital city on Earth, being hired at a solar company felt like fate.
Positive vibes
If you’ve searched Positive Energy on the internet, you quickly see that we are Perth’s #1 ranked solar installation company for two years running.
Why?
The Positive Energy staff are industry experts committed to a no-pressure approach.
I set up consultations all day (if you phone us, chances are you’ll talk to me!). When I schedule a customer, I know that they will get a high-quality solar system designed for their needs, without pushy salesperson tactics.
When it comes time for installation, our dedicated team of installers regularly get glowing reviews for their work.
The team make my job easy: I talk to every potential customer with complete confidence in our people, service, and product.
a solar newbie
I’ve been absorbing as much as I can from the experienced team at Positive Energy. The learning curve has been steep!
Customers often tell me they are just starting their own research into solar energy and don’t know where to begin. As a fellow newbie surrounded by solar experts, I’m in a perfect position to share my learning.
Here are a few questions I asked in my first month at the job:
what are the parts of a solar system?
It’s more than just the fancy panels on the roof.
Grids of cells under sheets of glass protected by a frame which convert sunlight into DC electricity. If you want to get nerdy about different types of solar cells and how the photovoltaic (PV) effect works, read this.
A piece of equipment that changes DC electricity from the solar panels into AC current, which can be used by your home. I’ve learned this component is working constantly throughout the day and is most vulnerable to breaking down over the years. A good reason to avoid buying a cheap product that won’t last!
The parts that hold the solar panels to the roof. I like that we use all-black racking for a sleek look.
A consumption monitor can be added to tell you what the system produces and when you use the energy. I’ve learned that your system will tell you how much energy is being produced, but if you want to know what you’re using and when, you need to add this part.
Being able to monitor your energy use helps you maximize your savings.
why do we do consultations at customer's homes?
At Positive Energy, one of the first things I realized was that we don’t sell one-size-fits-all systems. When a consultant comes to your home, they can look over your roof for any issues or features that can’t be seen on satellite photos online. They can also check your switchboard.
During my training I’ve been lucky to ride along to observe a few consultations. I’ve watched my coworkers assess shading at a property to optimize the system and sort out locations for installing other components such as solar batteries.
With a home assessment, we can make sure we hear exactly what you’re looking for so that the system is designed for your needs and tailored for your property.
If you give us a call, I would be happy to book you a free consultation today!
why buy premium range products?
Installing a solar energy system at your home is a significant investment. It can help you cut your bills in half (or more!) and run your home with clean energy.
Solar panels add value to the property and help reduce our impact on the planet – the ultimate win-win in my mind.
The cost of a system can be a bit intimidating. The last thing I want to see is a customer spending money on products that break down or on poor workmanship that won’t stand the test of time.
In my short time here, I’ve learned that buying mid to premium range ensures your system is backed with good warranties. I’ve been impressed to hear our consultants explaining different types of warranties in practical terms. It seems that the classic saying “you get what you pay for” is true in the solar industry like it is elsewhere.
I’ve realized it’s helpful to buy products originating from companies with a corporate presence in Australia, rather than overseas. If something goes wrong, it’s easier to deal with an office in Australia than in a completely different country!
Doing some research about the installation company you choose can give you peace of mind about the quality of the work and the products used.
As Perth’s #1 installation company, we recommend these panels and batteries.
why do we go for lunch so often?
On my first day at Positive Energy, everyone made sure to book off some time to meet for lunch. Remember, this is my first experience working in Australia, so I had no idea what to expect.
I emerged two hours later feeling very full and very happy to be part of a tight-knit team.
I’m not saying we go for lunch EVERY week, but we do know how to celebrate wins and reward many hours of hard work.
If this is working life in Australia, extend my visa immediately!
