Canadian Solar, a mid-range price competitive panel manufacturer normally compared to Trina and Jinko have expanded their product warranty to 25 years up from 12 previously making them the most compelling option in this price range.
Performance V Product warranties
Solar panels come with both a performance and product warranty. So what’s the difference?
The performance warranty guarantees a panel’s performance will not drop below a pre-determined output over time. The 25 year performance warranty is a minimum standard for solar panels being sold in the Australian market and can be notoriously hard to make claims against.
The product warranty is the more important warranty as it covers defects in the panel. Essentially, if a panel stops working or performs poorly the product warranty is what will cover you. The extension of Canadian Solar’s product warranty is therefore significant.
Canadian Solar warrants to the original buyer of the Products that the Products shall be free from defects in materials and workmanship which have an effect on Products functionality under normal application, installation, use, and service conditions as specified in Canadian Solar’s standard product documentation such as the installation manual and its annexes.
Claims under this warranty will only be accepted if the Buyer can prove that the malfunctioning or nonconformity of the Products results exclusively from defects in materials and/or workmanship under normal application, installation, use and service conditions specified in Canadian Solar’s standard product documentation.
Canadian Solar 25-year Product Warranty will apply to residential installs from 1st July 2021 for the following products:
