Tesla Powerwall 3
The Tesla Powerwall 3 is the most integrated of the three. It combines the solar inverter and battery in a single unit, so there is no need for a separate hybrid inverter. Each Powerwall 3 stores 13.5 kWh and delivers up to 11.04 kW of continuous power, with up to four units stackable for 54 kWh total. It accepts up to 20 kW of solar input across six MPPTs, so it works well with larger arrays and multiple roof orientations.
The Powerwall 3 makes Tesla’s strongest case for simplicity. One unit on the wall handles inverter and battery functions, connects to the Tesla app, and manages energy automatically. The installation footprint is smaller than a separate inverter and battery combination, and the system has a clear, well-known support structure through Tesla’s controlled installer network.
Whole-home backup is available on the single-phase 10 kW setting. During a grid outage, the Powerwall 3 can power the entire home up to its 11.04 kW continuous output limit. On three-phase properties or the 5 kW setting, backup covers essential circuits only.

Sungrow SBH
Sungrow is the world’s largest inverter maker and one of the most widely used solar brands in Australia. The SBH (Stackable Battery High voltage) is Sungrow’s residential battery, built to work with the SH series hybrid inverters: the SH10RS for single phase, and the SH10T and SH15T for three phase. On single phase, the SH10RS supports whole-home backup. On three phase, whole-home backup needs the SH15T (15 kW). The SH10T supports partial backup only.
The SBH is a modular battery that stacks in 5 kWh increments, so system capacity can be sized precisely. On single phase, the SBH is capped at 30 kWh total. On three phase, each stack scales up to 40 kWh and up to 3 stacks can be installed. The SBH’s standout spec is round-trip efficiency. At 96-97%, it turns more of your solar generation into usable stored energy than either of the other two options. Over years of daily cycling, that efficiency difference adds up to real savings.
Sungrow’s Australian track record is long and well-established. Their inverters are among the most common in the country, and their warranty and service processes are proven. For homeowners who value a maker with deep Australian roots and extensive local service support, Sungrow is a strong choice.

SigEnergy SigenStor
SigEnergy is a newer name in the Australian market, but the SigenStor has drawn a lot of attention since its launch. Its headline features are LFP cells rated to 10,000 cycles by the cell maker (not a SigEnergy system-level warranty figure), the highest cell-level cycle rating of the three, and an optional bidirectional DC EV charger that opens the path to V2X (Vehicle-to-Everything) capability. Full V2X function is currently in development and being trialled in Australia. The technology is progressing but is not yet a mainstream, fully supported feature. Compatible EV support in the Australian market is also still developing.
The SigenStor uses modular BAT-6.0 and BAT-10.0 battery units that stack to build the capacity you need. AI-driven energy management is built into the system, automatically choosing when to charge and discharge based on tariffs, solar generation, and usage patterns. For homeowners with complex energy needs, such as EVs, pool pumps, air-conditioning, and high appliance loads, the AI management layer adds real value.
SigEnergy’s Australian market presence is shorter than Tesla’s or Sungrow’s. The product performance data is strong and Australian uptake has been fast. The real-world gap between the three is smaller than the headline numbers suggest. All three are efficient batteries by any practical measure.
Which battery lasts the longest?
All three batteries carry a 10-year warranty with 70% capacity retention, but the way cycle life is expressed differs. Tesla Powerwall 3 offers an unlimited cycle warranty when not taking part in a VPP. There is no cycle count limit in that set-up, which is a genuine point of difference. Sungrow SBH’s Australian warranty is capacity/throughput-based (70% retention at 10 years, or a per-model throughput cap). Sungrow does not publish an AU cycle-count figure. SigEnergy SigenStor’s warranty is likewise throughput-based over 10 years. The underlying LFP cells are rated to 10,000 cycles at a cell level, though this is a cell maker specification rather than a system-level warranty figure. In practical residential use, all three are designed to comfortably outlast their 10-year warranty periods.
Can I use my EV as a backup battery?
Only with the SigEnergy SigenStor and a compatible EV. SigenStor’s built-in bidirectional DC charger supports V2X (Vehicle-to-Everything), letting a compatible electric vehicle send power into the home during a grid outage. This is the only one of the three batteries that currently offers V2X. Tesla Powerwall 3 does not currently support V2X, and Sungrow SBH does not include this feature.
Which battery gives the best whole-home backup?
