For Synergy customers: $130 per kWh, up to $1,300. Plus an no-interest loan up to $10,000.
Small-scale Technology Certificates (STCs) are the federal solar incentive under the Renewable Energy Target. They come straight off the price of your solar panels, up front. How many you receive depends on your system size and the year you install — and the rate steps down every January through to 2030.
Estimate only, based on Perth (Zone 3, rating 1.382), a 2026 install (5-year deeming) and an STC price of about $38. The deeming period drops by one year each January, so a 2026 install locks a higher discount than 2027. We confirm your exact figure in your quote.
The Cheaper Home Batteries Program is a national rebate that reduces the upfront cost of an eligible home battery, for every household regardless of income.
- Applies to eligible home batteries from 5 kWh, installed with new or existing solar, with the rebate calculated on the first 50 kWh of usable capacity.
- The battery must be on the Clean Energy Council approved product list.
- Your installer applies the discount at the point of sale, so there is no separate claim to lodge.
- Funding is allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.
From 1 May 2026 the rebate moved to a tiered structure based on battery size: the full rate applies to the first 14 kWh, with a tapered amount above that. The rate steps down again on 1 January 2027, so installing sooner locks a higher rebate. See your combined battery rebate on the slider below.
Synergy customers can claim a Western Australian rebate on top of the federal one. It is worth $130 for every usable kWh of battery storage, capped at $1,300, and your approved installer applies it directly to your quote.
How the WA rebate works
- $130 per usable kWh, up to a $1,300 cap, for Synergy customers.
- Covers new, replacement or additional batteries with 5 to 10 kWh usable capacity.
- The battery must be on the Clean Energy Council approved list and meet Synergy’s standards.
- You join a Virtual Power Plant to qualify (see below).
- Part of a $337 million WA scheme, capped at 100,000 rebates and expected to run into 2027.

To claim the WA Residential Battery Scheme rebate (and the optional loan), you will generally need to meet the following. As a New Energy Tech Approved Seller (NETCC), we check your eligibility and apply the rebates for you.
- A WA resident aged 18 or over, and an Australian permanent resident.
- A Synergy electricity customer (we service the Synergy network across Perth and surrounds).
- Your property is in WA and used mainly as a home.
- A standalone home or titled unit, owned or rented (with the owner’s consent if renting).
- The property is not owned by government, banks, telcos or mining companies.
- You have a reliable internet connection for system monitoring.
- You are willing to join an approved Virtual Power Plant.
Systems installed or upgraded from 1 May 2026 must also meet WA’s updated technical requirements (flexible exports / CSIP-AUS). We confirm your exact entitlement as part of your quote.
A Virtual Power Plant (VPP) links thousands of home batteries together, so the network can draw on stored energy during periods of high demand. In return, participating households are rewarded for sharing their stored energy.
Joining a VPP is a requirement of the WA Residential Battery Scheme. For Synergy customers this means Synergy Battery Rewards: the grid can call on a small amount of your stored energy up to around 30 times a year (up to six hours each time), and you are paid for it. You can opt out after two years.
On top of the rebate, eligible WA households can access a no-interest loan to help cover the rest of a battery — and associated equipment like inverters or panels, when installed alongside it.
- Loan amounts from $2,001 to $10,000.
- 0% interest over a 3 to 10 year term, with no early-repayment fees.
- Available to households with a gross annual income under $210,000.
- Administered by Plenti on behalf of the WA Government.
- The combined rebate and loan cannot exceed the total cost of your system.
- Subject to a credit check and standard lending criteria.
You do not need new panels to add storage and claim the rebates. Around one in four batteries we install is a retrofit to an existing solar system — premium storage added to the setup you already own.

How much is the WA battery rebate worth?
The WA Residential Battery Scheme is worth up to $1,300 for Synergy customers, based on $130 per usable kWh of battery capacity (up to 10 kWh). It applies on top of the separate federal Cheaper Home Batteries rebate, which scales with battery size. Ask us for an itemised quote showing both rebates on your system.
Can I claim both the federal and WA rebates?
Yes. The two are complementary and your installer applies them together at the point of purchase. The federal rebate scales with battery size, while the WA rebate for Synergy customers is capped at $1,300 for batteries up to 10 kWh.
Do I have to join a VPP to get the rebate?
Yes. Joining an approved Virtual Power Plant is a requirement of the WA Residential Battery Scheme. For Synergy customers this means Synergy Battery Rewards.
Can I get a rebate if I already have solar?
Yes. Both rebates can apply to a battery added to an existing solar system. Depending on your current setup this may need extra equipment or a reconfiguration, which our team can assess for you.
Am I eligible for the WA scheme?
You will generally need to be a WA resident and Australian permanent resident aged 18 or over, a Synergy customer, with a residential property in WA that you own or have the owner's consent to install a battery on. See the full checklist above.
Are batteries installed before July 2025 eligible?
Only batteries installed on or after 1 July 2025 are eligible for the WA rebate and loan. A new, replacement or additional battery installed from that date may qualify.
Can renters apply?
Renters may be eligible with the property owner's written consent for the battery installation, provided all other requirements are met.
Is the no-interest loan means-tested?
Yes. The no-interest loan is available to households with a gross annual income under $210,000, and applicants are subject to a credit check.
What changed on 1 May 2026?
The federal rebate moved to a tiered structure that reduces the per-kWh amount for larger systems, while the WA scheme continues under its existing rules. The federal rate steps down again on 1 January 2027. Speak to our team for the current figures.
