SunPower panels come with a 30-year warranty. That warranty, including the labour component, is only fully backed when an authorised partner installs the system. And not all authorised partners are equal.

Positive Energy Solutions holds SunPower Elite Partner status. This is the top tier of SunPower’s three-level partner program. This post explains what that means. It covers what we get access to as an Elite Partner, and why it matters for homeowners choosing a SunPower system in Perth.

1. SunPower in Perth: A Select Partner Network

SunPower is a premium solar panel brand with a long track record in high-efficiency panel technology. Their P-Series panels sit at the premium end of the residential market. This is not the lowest-cost option, and it is not meant to be. SunPower’s value is long-term performance. That means lower degradation, a stronger warranty, and construction built to last in tough conditions like Perth’s.

SunPower runs a structured partner program with three tiers to keep installation quality high across Australia: Authorised, Preferred, and Elite. Standard accreditation gets you on the map. Elite status reflects a deeper relationship. It means demonstrated performance, completed training, and a real level of commercial commitment. SunPower recognises this with meaningful benefits in return.

In Perth, only a few companies hold Elite status. It is the tier SunPower works most closely with. It carries the full weight of their manufacturer backing.

2. SunPower and TCL: The Partnership Behind the Product

SunPower has entered a major strategic partnership with TCL, one of the world’s largest consumer electronics and technology groups. TCL is best known globally for televisions. But its core business is advanced manufacturing at massive scale: display technology, electronics components, and vertically integrated production. It is a multi-billion-dollar enterprise with deep manufacturing infrastructure and a global supply chain.

For SunPower, the partnership means a step change in manufacturing capacity and vertical integration. Solar panel manufacturing depends heavily on supply chain control. Cell production, glass sourcing, encapsulant materials, and factory throughput all affect product quality and cost. The TCL partnership gives SunPower a level of manufacturing scale and supply chain depth that a standalone panel brand cannot match.

From a customer view, one question matters most: if you buy a panel with a 30-year warranty, who stands behind that promise in year 15 and year 25? The SunPower-TCL partnership links that warranty to one of the world’s major technology manufacturers. That is a stronger position than a standalone solar company navigating industry consolidation on its own. The solar industry has seen real brand exits and insolvencies in recent years. The TCL relationship sets SunPower apart.

This matters for Perth homeowners choosing a 30-year product. A warranty is only as strong as the company that has to honour it. Knowing who is behind SunPower today, and the resources that come with that relationship, is a fair part of your evaluation.

3. What the SunPower Elite Partner Program Involves

Elite Partner status is not a one-time achievement. It reflects ongoing performance against SunPower’s criteria. It is an active relationship that goes well beyond standard installer accreditation.

Training and accreditation

Elite Partners complete SunPower’s full technical training program. This covers system design, correct installation and commissioning of the P-Series, and integration with battery systems. It also covers the specific requirements for the 30-year warranty. SunPower keeps this training current as its products evolve. The people who design and oversee Positive Energy Solutions’ SunPower installations know the product in detail, not just in outline.

Early access to new products

As an Elite Partner, Positive Energy Solutions gets early access to new SunPower products before they reach the broader installer market. When SunPower launches a new panel specification or product line, we see it first. Our customers can access the latest hardware ahead of the general market. Our team also has time to train on it before it goes live.

Advantageous pricing

Elite Partner status comes with preferential product pricing. This is a commercial benefit of the deeper relationship Positive Energy Solutions has built with SunPower. It means we can offer competitive SunPower pricing, without cutting corners on design and installation quality.

Marketing support

SunPower provides direct marketing support to Elite Partners: co-branded materials, campaign assistance, and access to SunPower’s brand resources. For customers, this means the manufacturer backs the SunPower information Positive Energy Solutions presents. It is not pieced together from third-party sources.

Factory tours

Positive Energy Solutions has had the chance to visit SunPower’s manufacturing facilities. This gives our team direct insight into how the panels are built. We see the quality control behind the product, and the engineering decisions behind the P-Series performance specs. When our consultants talk about SunPower’s glass-glass construction or TOPCon cell technology, that knowledge comes from firsthand experience of the manufacturing process, not just the spec sheet.

In-house engineering review

Every SunPower system Positive Energy Solutions designs goes through our in-house engineering team before installation. This covers system sizing, battery compatibility, roof orientation, cable design, and Western Power compliance. On installation day, our accredited installers carry out a final site review. They make the final design decisions based on what they find on site.

4. What Elite Status Means for You as a Customer

Buying a SunPower system through an Elite Partner, instead of a standard Authorised installer, makes a practical difference in several ways.

  • Full 30-year warranty backing: SunPower’s warranty, including labour, is fully backed on systems installed by authorised partners. As an Elite Partner, Positive Energy Solutions has the closest relationship with SunPower’s warranty and support team. Any claim is handled with direct manufacturer involvement.
  • Correctly specified systems: the P-Series has specific design requirements that affect long-term performance. Elite Partner training covers these in depth. A system designed by a partner with that training performs differently over 25 years than one designed straight from the brochure.
  • Access to the latest product: early access means Positive Energy Solutions customers can get their hands on new SunPower hardware before it is widely available through the general market.
  • Direct manufacturer connection: if a question or issue comes up after installation, our Elite Partner relationship means we escalate directly to SunPower, not into a general support queue.

5. The SunPower P-Series: What Positive Energy Solutions Installs

Every solar and battery system Positive Energy Solutions builds uses SunPower P-Series panels. Here is what the P-Series delivers:

  • Cell technology: TOPCon (Tunnel Oxide Passivated Contact) shingled-cell design. Cells overlap rather than connect via visible busbars, reducing resistive losses and improving output uniformity across the panel.
  • Construction: glass-glass — a tempered glass rear sheet replaces the polymer backsheet used in standard panels, eliminating moisture ingress pathways and UV degradation of the rear material.
  • First-year output: 99% of rated capacity guaranteed in year one.
  • Maximum annual degradation: 0.40% per year — lower than the ~0.55% typical of mainstream mid-tier panels.
  • Year 25 minimum output: 89.4% of rated capacity.
  • Year 30 minimum output: 87.4% of rated capacity.
  • Salt mist certification: IEC 61701 maximum severity — the highest rating available for salt mist resistance.
  • Warranty: 30 years covering product, performance, and service including labour.

6. Built for Perth: Heat, UV, and Coastal Salt

Perth’s conditions are genuinely tough on solar hardware. SunPower’s P-Series is built for exactly these conditions. The choice of panel matters more here than in most Australian cities.

Heat performance

Perth roof temperatures regularly exceed 70°C in summer. The P-Series temperature coefficient, approximately -0.29% per degree Celsius above 25°C, means it loses less output to heat than standard PERC panels. On a 42-degree afternoon, the difference is measurable. Across 25 Perth summers, it adds up.

UV resistance

Perth gets some of the highest UV radiation in Australia. Glass-glass construction removes the UV degradation pathway that affects polymer backsheets over time. This is one reason glass-glass panels hold their performance better in high-UV places over the long term.

Coastal salt

A large share of Perth’s solar installations sit in coastal suburbs, from Joondalup to Two Rocks in the north, Fremantle to Rockingham in the south, and the beach corridors in between. IEC 61701 maximum severity salt mist certification is the benchmark for coastal-rated panels. SunPower’s P-Series holds this certification. If you live in coastal Perth, it is worth confirming this on any panel specification before signing.

7. SunPower in a Solar + Battery System

Positive Energy Solutions only designs and installs solar and battery systems, not solar alone. How panel performance interacts with battery storage over 25 to 30 years is central to how we specify every system.

A battery stores what the panels generate. Panels that lose output faster over time send less energy to the battery each day. That compounds: it affects grid import and how well the battery covers evening loads. SunPower’s 0.40% maximum degradation floor means the panels are still generating strongly in year 20 and year 25. That keeps the battery investment paying off across the whole system life.

One thing worth knowing: the inverter, not the panel brand, decides what battery you can connect to your system. SunPower P-Series panels work with any compatible hybrid inverter. The panel generates the energy; the inverter manages where it goes. Positive Energy Solutions installs Fronius GEN24 PLUS and SigEnergy SigenStor systems alongside SunPower panels. Our in-house engineers specify the right inverter for each home’s load profile, battery goals, and grid connection. The panel and battery are designed as one system from the start, not bolted together after the fact.

8. Omnidian After-Sales Support on Every System

Every Positive Energy Solutions installation is supported through Omnidian, a dedicated after-sales service company. It monitors system performance all the time. It investigates any issues that come up, and coordinates warranty or service action on your behalf. It runs independently of SunPower, your inverter, and your battery, tracking the whole system from day one.

For a system backed by a 30-year warranty, independent monitoring from day one means any underperformance shows up in the data. It is not discovered years later on an electricity bill. Omnidian is included on every Positive Energy Solutions installation as standard.

Note: we will cover the full Omnidian and Positive Energy Solutions partnership in a dedicated post, including how their after-sales service works and what it means for your system over the long term.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between a SunPower Authorised, Preferred, and Elite Partner?

SunPower’s three-tier program recognises different levels of commitment and capability. Authorised is the entry level: completed training and listed on SunPower’s partner map. Preferred reflects stronger performance and a closer relationship. Elite is the top tier. These are the partners SunPower works most closely with. It comes with the deepest training, early product access, preferential pricing, and direct manufacturer support. Positive Energy Solutions holds Elite status.

Does the SunPower warranty only apply with an authorised installer?

Yes. SunPower’s full 30-year warranty, including labour, applies when an authorised SunPower partner installs the panels. Systems installed by non-authorised installers may run into problems when warranty claims are lodged. As an Elite Partner, Positive Energy Solutions carries the full warranty backing on every system we build.

What does the 30-year labour warranty actually cover?

If a SunPower panel fails or underperforms within the warranty period, SunPower will replace it. Most panel manufacturers stop there. SunPower’s labour warranty also covers the cost of getting someone on your roof to remove the faulty panel, fit the replacement, and re-commission the system. That labour cost can run to several hundred dollars per panel. It is covered for 30 years. This is the part of the SunPower warranty that homeowners most often only discover when they need it.

What is the degradation difference between SunPower and a mid-tier panel in real terms?

SunPower guarantees a maximum of 0.40% degradation per year, with a minimum of 89.4% output at year 25. Most mid-tier panels degrade at around 0.55% per year, with a floor of approximately 80% at year 25. On a 6.6kW system in Perth, that is a difference of around 0.6kW of effective capacity at year 25. That translates to over 1,000 kWh of extra generation per year by the mid-to-late system life.

Can I add a battery to a SunPower system later?

Yes, but your inverter, not your solar panels, decides battery compatibility. If you plan to add a battery later, the inverter needs to be the right hybrid model from day one. Positive Energy Solutions designs every system with future battery storage in mind. Even if the battery is not going in right away, we specify the inverter so the option stays open. Adding a battery later to an already-installed hybrid inverter is straightforward. Retrofitting the right inverter to a solar-only system means extra work and cost. It is also usually cheaper to include the battery from the start: one installation, one Western Power application, one commissioning visit.

Is SunPower a company that will still be around in 20 years?

It is a fair question to ask of any brand offering a 30-year warranty. SunPower has recently entered a partnership with TCL, one of the world’s largest consumer electronics and technology companies. This brings much greater manufacturing capacity, supply chain integration, and financial scale to the brand. That partnership strengthens the backing behind SunPower’s long-term warranty commitments. It is a more reassuring position than many solar panel manufacturers can point to.
