Two years ago, Greg had a 6.6kW system installed on his new home in Applecross. Wanting a top-quality system, he chose SunPower Performance solar panels and a 5kW Fronius Symo inverter.
Fast-forward 2 years, Greg decided it was time to add a battery, but unfortunately the original solar company was no longer in business. So instead, he contacted SunPower Australia directly and asked to be referred to a local SunPower partner. Positive Energy Solutions came recommended as “The Best in the West“
After analysing Greg’s energy usage data, we determined that the existing 6.6kW system simply was not big enough to cover his high daytime power usage and also fully charge a battery. Not to mention, the existing Fronius Symo inverter was the older non-hybrid model i.e. not “battery-ready”. So what was the plan…
To provide the extra power needed, we installed an additional 8.6kW of All-Black SunPower Performance panels to match the existing SunPower panels. And rather than replacing a perfectly good inverter, we installed a 2nd inverter instead – the latest Fronius GEN24+ hybrid model.
By sticking with Fronius as the inverter brand, both the new and old system work together cohesively and are monitored online as one. Solar power from both sets of solar panels are used to charge the 16kWh BYD battery.
Greg is now the proud owner of a 15.2kW system. This Solar & Battery installation in Applecross can produce an average of 60 kWh per day, and even more in Summer; plenty for running the air-conditioner freely. The system is also ready to provide Backup Power in the event of a grid-outage.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why did Greg need to add more solar panels when he already had a 6.6kW system?
Greg’s existing 6.6kW system was not big enough to cover his high daytime power usage and also fully charge a battery at the same time. By adding an additional 8.6kW of solar panels, his total system became 15.2kW, which gave him the extra power he needed.
What does the 16kWh BYD battery mean for Greg’s home?
The 16kWh battery stores solar energy that Greg generates during the day so he can use it at night or during cloudy periods. It also provides backup power if there is a grid outage, so his home can keep running.
How much energy does Greg’s system actually produce?
Greg’s 15.2kW system can produce an average of 60 kWh per day, and even more during summer months. Over a full year, the system produces 21,900 kWh of energy.
Why did Positive Energy Solutions install a second inverter instead of replacing the old one?
The original Fronius Symo inverter was still in good working condition but was not a hybrid model that could work with a battery. By installing a second Fronius GEN24+ hybrid inverter, both the old and new systems work together as one cohesive system that can be monitored online.
