Prices cover a single-phase home at any address between Yanchep and Mandurah, and include Tesla's Backup Gateway 2, so blackout backup is part of every system. A three-phase home is priced in your quote. The 27 and 40.5 kWh systems add Powerwall 3 Expansion units to one Powerwall 3. What the Powerwall 3 is
The Tesla Powerwall 3 is a home battery and a solar inverter in one unit. It stores 13.5 kWh, takes up to 20 kW of solar panels across three solar inputs, and starts heavy loads such as an air conditioner or a pool pump.
With the inverter built in, one unit does the job of two, and it mounts on a wall or the floor, indoors or out.
The range has three parts. The Powerwall 3 holds the battery, the solar inverter and the battery inverter. The Powerwall 3 Expansion is 13.5 kWh of extra storage that runs through the Powerwall 3's inverter, so it adds hours of power at the same output. The Backup Gateway 2 sits near your switchboard. It measures what your home uses, watches the grid, and switches your home to battery power when the grid drops out. Every Powerwall 3 we install includes one.
Tesla lists the USA as the Powerwall 3's country of manufacture. The cells are lithium iron phosphate (LFP), the stable, long-lived chemistry used in home batteries. Tesla lists the Powerwall 3 as certified to IEC 62619:2022, the international safety standard for lithium batteries, and as meeting the UL 9540A fire test.

How the Powerwall 3 works
On a normal day the system runs itself. The panels power the house first. What is left over charges the Powerwall 3 at up to 5 kW. Once the battery is full, the rest goes to the grid, up to Western Power's export limit. From late afternoon the battery runs the house until it is empty or the sun comes back.
The Tesla app puts it all on one screen: what the panels are making, how full the battery is, what the house is using, and what is going to or coming from the grid. Three settings matter in Perth. Self-Powered stores your spare daytime solar and runs your home on it at night; most homes stay on it. Time-Based Control charges and discharges around your tariff. On Synergy's Midday Saver, power costs 8.85 cents a kWh between 9am and 3pm and 55.33 cents a kWh between 3pm and 9pm, so on a grey day the Powerwall 3 can top up on low-cost midday power and run the house through the evening. Backup Reserve is the share of the battery you keep aside for a blackout.
Storm Watch is available in Australia. When severe weather is forecast, the app tells you and the Powerwall 3 charges to full, whatever your Backup Reserve is set to.
What runs in a blackout
When the grid drops out, the Backup Gateway 2 detects the outage, disconnects your home from the grid, and the Powerwall 3 carries the house. The switch-over happens on its own. Your solar keeps producing and recharges the battery while the sun is up.
How much of the house it carries depends on the setting. On the 10 kW setting on a single-phase home, the whole home is backed up, and the Powerwall 3 can start heavy loads such as an air conditioner or a pool pump. Run the big appliances one at a time, as you would on a generator: the oven, a ducted air conditioner, the pool pump and an EV charger each take a large share of the 10 kW. On the 5 kW setting, and on every three-phase home, we wire your essential circuits to the backup side: lights, the fridge, power points, the router and the television.

Backup time is the battery's 13.5 kWh divided by what the house draws. Lights, the fridge, the internet and a television draw about half a kilowatt, so a full Powerwall 3 runs them for about a day. At about 1 kW, a normal evening's use, it lasts about 13 hours. Which setup suits your home
Size depends on how much power your home uses between sunset and sunrise, and the setting on how much of the house you want backed up. Your consultant works out both from your Synergy bill and your switchboard, and from your plans: a growing family, an electric car or going all-electric.

Single phase: 10 kW or 5 kW
Most Perth homes are single phase, and that is where the Powerwall 3 fits best. Western Power's connection rules now allow a 10 kW battery inverter on a single-phase home, so the Powerwall 3 can run at its full 10 kW. Choose the 10 kW setting if whole-home backup is the reason you are buying. Choose the 5 kW setting if Synergy's export credit matters more to you: Synergy pays its DEBS export credit (the Distributed Energy Buyback Scheme) on homes whose inverter is 5 kW or smaller. Three-phase homes
The Powerwall 3 is a single-phase battery. On a three-phase home it connects to one phase and runs at 5 kW. While the grid is up it charges from your solar and runs your home as normal. In a blackout it backs up the circuits on that one phase, so we move your essentials onto it, and three-phase appliances stay on the grid side. Tesla has announced a three-phase model, the Powerwall 3P, which is yet to reach Australia; our guide to the Powerwall 3P explains what it will change. Adding solar or keeping yours
New solar goes straight into the Powerwall 3: up to 20 kW of panels across three solar inputs, so a north, a west and an east roof can each have their own string. Every new solar system we install uses SunPower panels; see our solar panels page. Already have solar? The Powerwall 3 can be AC-coupled to the inverter you already have, within Tesla's sizing rules for the backup circuit, and your panels stay as they are. One in four batteries we install is added to an existing system.
Already have a Powerwall 2? A Powerwall 3, with or without Expansion units, can now join an existing Powerwall 2 system and run as one, in one app. The home needs Tesla's Backup Gateway 2, so an older Gateway 1 is changed over as part of the job, and on a three-phase home the Powerwall 3 runs at 5 kW. Powerwall 3 cost and rebate in Perth
One Powerwall 3 (13.5 kWh) is from $15,190, a Powerwall 3 with one Expansion (27 kWh) from $22,890, and a Powerwall 3 with two Expansions (40.5 kWh) from $31,690, after the Federal rebate. Those prices include the Backup Gateway 2 and cover a single-phase home at any address between Yanchep and Mandurah; a three-phase home is priced in your quote. The Federal rebate
The Powerwall 3 qualifies for the Federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program, and that rebate is already taken off every price on this page. The rebate is worked out on the battery's usable capacity. Since 1 May 2026 the full rate applies to the first 14 kWh of a battery, with a smaller rate above that, so a single 13.5 kWh Powerwall 3 earns the full rate on every kWh. We claim it for you and take it off your price up front. The rebate steps down on 1 January 2027, so this year's price is the better one.
The WA rebate and loan
The WA Residential Battery Scheme rebate, and the WA no-interest loan that goes with it, are for batteries on Synergy's Supported Solutions List. The Powerwall 3 is outside that list, so the Federal rebate is the one that applies to it. Every other battery we install takes both rebates, so if the WA rebate or the loan matters to you, your consultant can price both side by side in your quote. Why a battery pays in Perth
Any solar system above 5 kW in Perth is held to Western Power's 1.5 kW export limit. A Powerwall 3 stores that extra solar so your home uses it in the evening. Using your own solar is worth far more than exporting it: Synergy's DEBS pays 10 cents for a kWh exported between 3pm and 9pm, and 2 cents at any other time. On the Midday Saver tariff, a battery that fills in the low-cost middle of the day and runs the house through the higher-priced evening suits that plan well. Tesla certifies the companies it allows to supply and install the Powerwall, and Positive Energy Solutions is a Tesla Powerwall Certified Installer. Tesla's warranty covers a Powerwall bought from and installed by a Tesla certified installer, and claims start with the certified installer who sold it, so for anything to do with your Powerwall 3 you call us. The one decision to make early is where the Powerwall 3 will go. Tesla rates it for indoors or outside, from -20 to 50 degrees Celsius, with reduced power above 40 degrees, so in Perth we look for a shaded wall, a garage or a carport, with clear space around it for airflow. The Powerwall 3 is quiet in normal use, under 50 dB(A) at one metre, and its fans work harder on a hot afternoon, so we place it away from bedroom walls. Powerwall 3 warranty and support
10 years, 70 per cent
Tesla warrants the Powerwall 3 and the Powerwall 3 Expansion in Australia for 10 years from the day they are installed, and promises at least 70 per cent of the 13.5 kWh rated capacity at year 10. That is at least 9.45 kWh a unit when the warranty ends.
Unlimited cycles for your own use
For solar self-consumption, time-based control and backup, the warranty allows unlimited cycles. For any other use, it sets a limit of 37.8 MWh of energy through the battery. A Powerwall 3 that runs on your own solar, your tariff and blackouts stays on unlimited cycles.
10-year workmanship, one call
Our 10-year installation workmanship warranty covers every install, with us as your single point of contact for any manufacturer claim. Positive Energy Protection, Powered by Omnidian, watches your system 24/7 alongside the Tesla app, with our own engineers in Perth and field technicians behind them.
The warranty covers a Powerwall bought from and installed by a Tesla certified installer in Australia. Tesla needs the system online for its firmware updates, and a Powerwall left offline or unregistered for a long time can have its cover reduced, though Tesla always honours at least four years. The Backup Gateway 2 carries its own 10-year warranty. Australian Consumer Law applies on top, and the documents are on our warranties page.

Powerwall 3 Expansion
13.5 kWh of storage only. It uses the Powerwall 3's inverter, so it adds more hours at the same output. Up to three sit beside or behind one Powerwall 3, for 27, 40.5 or 54 kWh, with the same 10-year warranty.
A second Powerwall 3
Another inverter as well as another 13.5 kWh. Up to four share one site and one Backup Gateway 2. It suits a home that needs more power at once, as well as more hours.
Choose the Expansion when your evenings run long and 10 kW at once is enough: a family home with a pool, ducted air conditioning or an electric car. Choose a second Powerwall 3 when you want more than 10 kW at once. An Expansion can also be added later, and we price that in your quote.

Should I choose the 10 kW or the 5 kW setting?

Choose 5 kW if Synergy's DEBS export credit matters more to you, because Synergy pays it on homes whose inverter is 5 kW or smaller; on 5 kW we back up your essential circuits. A three-phase home runs at 5 kW. Your consultant goes through both with you.
My home is three phase. Can I have a Powerwall 3?
Yes. It is a single-phase battery, so it sits on one phase at 5 kW and backs up the essential circuits we wire to that phase, while it charges from your solar and runs your home as normal. Tesla's three-phase Powerwall 3P is announced and yet to reach Australia. If whole-home three-phase backup is the goal today, we will recommend the best-fit battery from the brands we install.
Does the Powerwall 3 work with my existing solar?
Yes. It can be AC-coupled to the solar inverter you already have, within Tesla's sizing rules for the backup circuit, and your panels stay where they are. New panels wire straight into its three solar inputs, up to 20 kW. Send us a photo of your inverter and switchboard and we will tell you which applies.
What is the difference between a Powerwall 3 and a Powerwall 3 Expansion?
The Powerwall 3 holds the battery and the inverters and works with the Backup Gateway 2. The Expansion is 13.5 kWh of battery only and uses the Powerwall 3's inverter, so it adds hours of power at the same output. Up to three connect to one Powerwall 3, for 54 kWh, and they can be added later.
Can I add a Powerwall 3 to my Powerwall 2?
Yes. A Powerwall 3, alone or with Expansions, joins your Powerwall 2 and the two run as one system in the Tesla app. If your home still has a Gateway 1, it is changed over to a Backup Gateway 2 as part of the install. On a three-phase home the Powerwall 3 runs at 5 kW.
What warranty comes with a Tesla Powerwall 3?
10 years from installation, with at least 70 per cent of capacity at year 10. Cycles are unlimited for solar self-consumption, time-based control and backup; any other use carries a 37.8 MWh throughput limit. The Expansion and the Backup Gateway 2 are warranted for 10 years too, and our installation workmanship for 10 years.
Does the Powerwall 3 get the WA and Federal battery rebates?
The Federal rebate applies. We claim the Federal Cheaper Home Batteries rebate for you, and every price on this page is after it.
