Our customer, Ian, was renovating his 1920’s bungalow in Claremont. With a 2-story extension + new electric car, Ian anticipated his energy usage was going to increase significantly. So, to avoid the bill shock, he contacted Positive Energy to design & install a solar & battery solution.
To minimise losses from partial shading, 9.84kW of Sunpower Performance panels + Tigo Power Optimisers were installed across both terracotta tile and tin roofs.
A 10kW Fronius Symo GEN24+ hybrid inverter is paired with an 11kWh BYD battery which powers Ian’s home day & night and throughout the occasional grid-outage.
The final piece of the puzzle was a smart EV charging solution for Ian’s new car. The portable Fronius Wattpilot EV Charger was the obvious choice. This brilliant device avoids using grid power by dynamically adjusting the EV charging rate to match the amount of excess solar power available.
Using shade analysis software, we estimate this solar installation in Claremont will produce an average of 35 kWh per day.

12 Month savings update
Today we checked in on Ian to see how his solar and battery has been performing. Over the past 12 months, the system has generated 39kWh per day on average, and delivered $2,625 in savings.
While the plan is to eventually expand the 11kWh battery to a full 22kWh stack, in the meantime, Ian has switched to the Synergy Midday Saver plan to take advantage of cheap Off-Peak rates after 9pm.
